et Yourself Lively…..Walking St.Helens' was awarded national accreditation by 'Walking for Health', a Natural England initiative in August 2009 after demonstrating that it met the required national criteria. This includes offering led walks for beginners, meeting the Walking for Health safety and insurance standards for all walks and collecting basic monitoring information.

The walks, organised by St.Helens Council and Halton and St.Helens PCT, range between 1 and 6 miles and accommodate those who are not used to regular exercise as well as experienced walkers. The short walks are an ideal way for people to make new friends whilst improving their own health and well-being. The Sherdley Park walk is designated 'Moderate Intensity' - between 3 and 6 miles.

Footwear  Sensible flat shoes or walking boots are recommended. No slip-ons or high heels.
Dogs  Well behaved dogs on a lead at all times are welcome. Owners must take responsibility for their own dogs including getting them over stiles.
Weather & Holidays  Walks run on a weekly basis whatever the weather. Walks do not run on Bank Holidays or for 2 weeks over Christmas.
How much should I do?  The recommended amount of physical activity is 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week. However if you currently do no or little physical activity, it is recommended that you start at a low level and gradually build up to the recommended amount.
How hard should I work?  The recommendation is 5 X 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity. The best way to judge if your working hard enough is that your breathing slightly faster, feeling warmer and have an increase in heart rate (you should still be able to hold a conversation).
What happens if the Walk Leader doesn't turn up?  If a walk leader is ill, we will try to contact all walkers prior to the walk. If we are unable to get in touch with you, assume the walk is cancelled if the Walk Leader does not arrive within 10 minutes.

Recently approved projects in Bold include new fencing in Helena Road, several open space clean ups, tree planting, tidy up of Dunsop & Wray Avenues and Hornby Crescent, disabled access to the fishing pond on the Clock Face Colliery Country Park, tree planting at Four Acre and drainage for Walkers Lane allotments.

The National Blood Service need to collect 7000 donations of blood every day in order to carry out life saving and life improving treatments. Blood isn't just used for accidents and emergencies as many patients, such as those undergoing treatment for cancer and leukaemia, need regular blood transfusions.

At each blood donor session you will be given a questionnaire to complete about your health, medical history, travel history and lifestyle. National Blood Service staff will go through your answers with you before a quick finger prick check of your iron levels. Providing everything is fine, you can make your blood donation and ten to fifteen minutes later, you've saved a life!

Anyone may be able to donate if they are aged between 17-65, weigh over 7st 12lb (50 kg) and are in good health. There is no upper age limit for blood donation if you've donated during the last 2 years.

Sutton Cricket Club boast many qualified coaches and has five successful junior teams and three open age teams. The junior teams consist of under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 year olds and they are always on the look out for more players. The open age have a 1st XI, 2nd XI and a Sunday XI.

Sutton CC have been granted Community Club Development Fund (CCDF) status which means they receive funding to develop and promote cricket within the Sutton and St.Helens community. In 2008 they were awarded a grant of £19,857 for an artificial practice net system and an artificial pitch.

Large numbers visited the St.Helens Festival 2009 over the two days. There was out-of-the-ordinary street theatre acts roaming Sherdley Park, stages showcasing up-and-coming acts, and plenty of activity for children and older people alike to participate in.

It is thought that around 15,500 people in the St.Helens and Halton area have diabetes and 32,300 are registered as obese and are at risk of developing the condition. If not properly treated, diabetes can lead to blindness, limb amputation, heart disease, strokes and kidney failure.
